Frequently Asked Questions

What data sources does EconShot support?

EconShot connects to four public economic data APIs: FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data, 840,000+ series), BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), World Bank, and US Treasury Fiscal Data. Data is always live and up-to-date.

Do I need API keys?

No. EconShot provides access to FRED and BLS data through its own proxy server, so you don't need to register for API keys. World Bank and Treasury APIs don't require keys at all. Power users can optionally enter their own FRED or BLS keys in Settings to use their personal API quota.

What's included in the free tier?

The free tier includes full access to FRED data (840,000+ series), unlimited chart creation and exports, recession shading, multi-series overlay, transforms, annotations, and LinkedIn direct posting. Free exports include a small "Made with EconShot" attribution line and use default branding.

What does Pro unlock?

Pro adds access to BLS, World Bank, and Treasury data sources; custom branding (your colors, logo, and per-platform handles on every chart); and removes the "Made with EconShot" attribution from exports.

How do I connect LinkedIn?

Go to Settings > Connected Accounts > LinkedIn. You'll be taken to LinkedIn's authorization page to grant EconShot permission to post on your behalf. Once connected, you'll see a "Post to LinkedIn" button on the Export screen. One tap posts your chart with an auto-generated caption.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your subscription in the app at Settings > Subscription > Manage, or through your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

How do I export charts?

Tap "Export" from any chart view. Choose your target dimension (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, or Presentation). Your brand settings are applied automatically. You can post directly to LinkedIn, copy the image, or share via the system share sheet.

What export dimensions are supported?

EconShot supports five export dimensions optimized for each platform:

  • LinkedIn — 1200 × 628 px (1.91:1)
  • Twitter/X — 1600 × 900 px (16:9)
  • Instagram — 1080 × 1080 px (1:1)
  • Threads — 1080 × 1350 px (4:5)
  • Presentation — 1920 × 1080 px (16:9 HD)

What are chart recipes?

Recipes are pre-configured charts that economists commonly share: Sahm Rule, Yield Curve, Real Wage Growth, CPI vs Core CPI, and more. Each recipe sets up the right data series, transforms, and threshold lines. One tap to open, customize, and share.

Does EconShot work offline?

Yes. EconShot caches fetched data on your device. Previously viewed charts and dashboard indicators are available offline with cached data. New data requires an internet connection.

How do I delete my data?

All app data is stored on your device. Deleting the app removes all data. To disconnect LinkedIn before uninstalling, go to Settings > Connected Accounts > LinkedIn. If you signed up for the email waitlist, contact support@econshot.app to request deletion.
